DEVOTIONAL INSIGHTS

INSIGHTS ON PRAYER

A Prayer Guide For Revival (Part 2)

PREPARATION FOR PRAYER . . .

We do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Rom. 8:26).

Pray that God will fill you with His Spirit so that He may guide you in prayer.

FIRST, WE WILL LOOK AT THE ONE WE ARE PRAYING TO . . .

Our Father Who Art in Heaven . . .

[The One we are praying to is our Father who also happens to be God of the Universe. Read the following verses to see a wonderful description of God's might and power.] "Blessed are You, Lord, O my soul. Oh, Lord my God, You are very great. You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering Yourself with light as with a cloak, stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. You lay the beams of Your upper chambers in the water, You make the clouds Your chariot; You walk upon the wings of the wind; You make the winds Your messengers, Flaming fire Your ministers. You established the earth upon its foundations so that it may not totter forever and ever; You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters were standing above the mountains; At Your rebuke they fled; At the sound of Your thunder, they hurried away." (Ps. 104:1-7)

[Next, read the following verses to appreciate God's love for you and me.] "Just as a father has compassion on his children, so You have compassion on those who respect You" (Ps. 103:13); "God, You so loved me that You gave Your only begotten Son, that if I believe in Him, I will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). [The bottom line is that if we love our children, how much more does God, the perfect Father, love you His child? Reflect for a moment on this and praise God for this truth.]

SECOND, WE WILL LOOK AT HOW VALUABLE THE GOD WE ARE PRAYING TO IS . . .

Hallowed Be Thy Name . . .

Again, the kingdom of heaven [Jesus] is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it (Matt. 13:45-46).

Pray to the Lord asking Him to make you worthy of Him by putting Him before your spouse, your children, your extended family, your friends, your health, your time, your money, your career, your comfort, your financial security, your popularity, your affirmation, your own agenda for your life and the church, your self.

THIRD, WE WILL PRAY FOR THE FURTHERING OF GOD'S KINGDOM . . .

Thy Kingdom Come . . .

Even so, come, Lord Jesus! (Rev. 22:20).

Pray that God's Son Jesus will return to consummate His kingdom on earth.

All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matt. 28:18-20). Pray that His kingdom will grow larger because He is working in and through you. [Pray that the following persons in your life will come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, and that if they are already saved, they will grow in their relationship with Him: spouse, children, neighbors, fellow employees, supervisor, social friends, enemies, anybody God brings into my path today.]

FOURTH, WE WILL PRAY THAT GOD'S WILL BE DONE IN OUR LIVES . . .

Thy Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven . . .

And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me." (Luke 9:23). [After Solomon had sacrificed the hundreds of thousands of animals on the altar,] the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud . . . for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God. (2 Chron. 5:13-14).

Pray that you will think only the thoughts He would have you think, that you have the vision of faith and hope that only He can give, that you speak only the words He wants to speak through you, that you love others only with the love with which He loves, that you love those around you as you love yourself, that you use your time the way He wants you to use it, and that you use your money only the way He wants you to use it. Since you have sacrificed all you are and have to Him, ask Him to fill you with His glorious presence.

FIFTH, WE WILL PRAY THAT HE WILL FILL OUR DAILY NEEDS . . .

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread . . .

Pray that Jesus will fill you with His Spirit each day so that He may speak His Word to you and so that He may give you the strength to obey Him on a daily, continual basis.

Pray that Jesus will fill you with His Spirit so that He will empower you to love your wife the way Christ loves the church. Or if you are a woman, pray that Jesus will fill you with His Spirit so that He will empower you to love and submit to your husband the way the church should love and submit to Christ.

Pray that the Father will fill you with His Spirit so that He may empower you to treat your children the same way He treats you.

Pray that the Lord will fill B.F., Carey, Chuck, Kyle, and Albert with His Spirit so that they may guide First Baptist Church in the paths the Lord want us to tread.

Pray that Jesus will fill First Baptist Church with His Spirit so that we may experience genuine revival, that the 2 major characteristics of our church family will be (1) love for one another and (2) unity.

Pray that Jesus will fill Jon Randles with His Spirit so that when he leads us in the revival, he will be speaking from God and not from himself.

Pray that Jesus will fill Mike Manley with His Spirit so that when he leads the music in the revival, he will be following the Lord's leadership.

SIXTH, PRAY THAT GOD FORGIVE YOUR SINS TO THE SAME DEGREE YOU FORGIVE OTHERS . . .

Forgive Us Our Debts As We Forgive Our Debtors . . .

Pray that the Spirit will show you which sins you have COMMITTED: thoughts, attitudes, greediness, selfishness, unkind words, . . .

Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin (James 4:17). Pray that the Spirit will show you which sins you have OMMITTED: a kind deed God wanted you to do for somebody, defending a person being attacked . . .

Therefore, if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering (Matt. 5:23,24). Pray that God reveal to you somebody you have wronged. First, ask God for His forgiveness and second, go ask for their forgiveness. Make amends if appropriate.

Pray that God reveal to you somebody who has wronged you. First, forgive them and then ask God to reconcile you to that person. Go talk to that person if it is appropriate.

SEVENTH, PRAY THAT GOD DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE. . .

Lead Us Not Into Temptation But Deliver Us From the Evil One.

[When Elisha was threatened by the Syrian forces,] Elisha prayed and said, "O Lord, I pray, open his eyes [the eyes of his servant] that he may see." And the Lord opened the servant's eyes and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kings 6:17). Pray that Jesus will surround your home north, east, south, and west with so many of His angels that the only spirit who can get anywhere near your home is His Spirit.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and rescues them (Psalm 34:7). Pray that Jesus will surround First Baptist Church north, east, south, and west with so many of His angels that the only spirit who can get anywhere near First Baptist Church is His Spirit.
